Persona
Eowyn can be called a very proud person. Honor means a lot to her - it pains her to see Rohan fall in a state of dishonor, and
she also has a lot of pride. For example, she scorns the pity that others give her, because it hurts her and her pride. Because of her
pride, Eowyn is often reluctant to accept help from others - she doesn't want anyone thinking that she's too weak to accomplish something
on her own. Eowyn is also quite stubborn. She is told several times over to remain away from battle and stay with her people, but she goes
off into battle anyway. All of these qualities are those of warriors and heroines, so it's no shock that Eowyn would have them - after all,
she's more or less the only heroine of Lord of the Rings, and she's an amazing warrior!
Another thing about Eowyn - she's out of touch with her emotions, in a sense. A simple, yet very meaningful line from Return of the King shows
this.
"All is well," she answered; and yet it seemed to Merry that she had been weeping, if that could be believed of one so stern of face.
I think this goes to show that she rarely expresses emotions, such as affection. She doesn't quite know how to do so - which is why I think someone who
was quite sensitive and in touch with his emotions, such as Faramir, would be good for her. But she is NOT a "frigid bitch" or an "ice princess" - she
has emotions. She doesn't hate everything and everyone. She doesn't doesn't KNOW how to express her emotions - she's a private and withdrawn person when
it comes to things like that, but there's nothing wrong with that!
Why is she like that? Well, loosing her parents at a young age might have had something to do with it. We never really go into how the death of her parents
affected her and her brother, but...well, she was ORPHANED. That would scar anyone, emotionally. I imagine that she was slow to trust her uncle at first...furthermore,
some people are just like her - private, cold, out of touch with emotions. Once again - Eowyn is not a frigid, battle-obsessed bitch. Understand?
