Emotions

Faramir isn't like other men - this is obvious from the moment he first appears in The Two Towers. Upon reflection, it he seems to have more qualities of Elves than Men, the most notable of these being his resistance to the One Ring. However, he is a Man - as far as status amoung men goes, he is hightly respected in the kingdom of Gondor. He has many of the people's love - all of those expect his father, of course. He is gentle; despite being a warrior, he does not relish in combat, and prefers peace to war. He's gentle as well, and these qualities were one of the things that his father thought was a flaw in him. And, well, it is, kind of; being gentle of heart and a pacifist of sorts aren't very good qualities in a warrior, but Faramir never let these hinder his performance in battle.

There's a good chance that Faramir came out of childhood emotionally scarred, in a way - while he earned the respect of the men of Gondor as an adult, there is a good chance that he was ignored and scorned, seeing as how he was quite different than most of the residents of Gondor. If he did come out of childhood scarred, however, there is no outward evidence of it, and he has learned to hide his pain and bitterness. If he bore any scars at all, that is. He doesn't show any evidence of it; the above is only speculation. If he doesn't, then he was a very wise and mature person, even as a child.
