Friends Faramir is adored and respected by almost all the men of Gondor; he is a warm and caring person, and easy to befriend. As such,
many people respect him and like him, but he doesn't seem to be too close to anyone. He and Boromir were very, very close; despite
Denethor's blatant favoritism of Boromir, he was never jealous of him; or, if he was, he never expressed it. Obviously, it must have
pained him greatly when he passed away. For some reason, I find Boromir and Faramir's relationship very interesting; I love reading
anything about it, and it kind of pisses me off that we didn't get to see more of it. But, anyway...we all know about Faramir's relationship
with Denethor, so I won't go there. Gandalf had a big influence on him - some people say that Faramir saw him as a father figure, since his
relationship with his own father wasn't perfect. People also say that he and Beregond were close friends as children; I don't know, since if
they were good friends, I think they would view one another as equals, instead of Beregond having such great respect for Faramir. However, Beregond
does seem to have a great amount of respect and affection for Faramir, more so than the typicial Gondorian. Speaking of respect, Pippin really
did respect Faramir, to the point where he named his child after him. Maybe he saw him as a Boromir-replacement, or maybe he just thought Faramir was
really cool. I don't know. And Faramir admired Aragorn; the book says that he loves him...actually, he looks at him with love in his eyes. But it
was just a platonic, "You're my king" kind of love. Just making that clear. |
