Faramir
All in all, the name 'sufficient jewel' is very fitting for Faramir, and considering his relationship with his
father and his place in this family, it's eerily prophetic.
The word sufficient is defined as "what is needed without excess". So, the bare minimum, more or less. Once you consider
it, a 'sufficient jewel' doesn't sound like much; really, it's sort of an unflattering name, implying that whoever has this
name really isn't worth much at all. But, despite that, it's fitting; Denethor never thought Faramir was worth much, so it makes sense
he would give ths name to his son. Although he didn't have this spite for him as an infant, obviously, and it's doubtful he pulled an
Eol and waited about twelve years to give his son a name; it was most likely a sort of literary device used by Tolkien, to show the contrast
between Boromir ("faithful jewel") and Faramir, and how they were seen in their father's eye.
As far as I know, Faramir had no other name or alias; there is his original name, Falbard, but I'll talk about that in the falbard section (which, god
willing, is getting up soon. no, really). So, that's all for now.
