Why?

Why Faramir/Eowyn? Why do I love them so much? Why do you care?

My reasons for loving them are many and hard to explain. Above all, I feel that they deserve each other. They have both been through so much sorrow and pain in their lifetimes, they deserve some happiness. But why with one another, and not with someone else?

I rarely go for canon parings, especially to obsess over; something about the paring that gets the happy ending, something so...complete, and perfect, just doesn't catch my attention. However, with Faramir/Eowyn, it was different; maybe it was the way Tolkien wrote it, the characters themselves, the way they interacted, or all three. But I was captivated by something I had barely noticed the first time around. Maybe because it wasn't purely based on "I love you, you love me, let's get married"; it involved overcoming personal fears and issues buried for ages. Faramir, in a sense, sort of "redeemed" her. She was miserable, at what she percieved to be at the end of her life; and he showed her that there was more to life than she thought.

Eowyn gets personal happiness and growth from their interaction, something I doubt she could have gotten with anyone else. But what about Faramir? What does he gain, other than a burden; a depressed, miserable woman, who he has to take care of for the rest of his life? Well, it's quite simple; he loves her. He looked past her sorrow and her misery, and what he saw, he fell in love with; the strength, the valor, the courage, the loyalty, and the power. He was one of the only people to do this, something even Aragorn could not do; to feel no pity for her, but to understand her, and love her. He has made it clear that he would love her, were she Aragorn's wife or no, and from being with her, he gains happiness as well; being with the woman he loves. (oh, so cheesy, I know. Whatever. It's not as cheese-riffic as it sounds, I swear.)

And that's just the tip of the iceberg. If I were to go into all the reasons that I loved Eowyn and Faramir, we'd be here for ages; so I'll just leave it at that for now. :D
